Alfredo Maestro began to make wine in the late 1990's when he planted his first vineyard, Almate, near his native town of Penaflel in the Ribera del Duero. From the begining everything was carried out strictly according to organic principles, but in 2003 Alfredo began to make natural wines containing absolutely no chemicals or added sulphites. Over the years the estate has grown to its current size of 9 hectares with the purchase of a number of abandoned or neglected vineyards around the Ribera del Duero. Now he is known as 'The Magician of the Duero' and is currently acknowledged as one of the most innovative and dynamic natural winemakers in Spain. The grapes for this particular Garnacha come from 70 year-old vines planted in the Sierra de Gredos at an altitude of 1,150 metres. Rich and spicy, this pairs perfectly with Asian-style cuisine.
A dark cherry-red in colour. Aromas of plums and summer red fruits. On the palate, ripe and juicy with a lively acidity and soft tannins leading to a spicy finish. Great with pesto-roasted chicken, Asian slow braised beef or aubergine, tomato and pine nut roast.
