  • 'R' de Ruinart NV
  • Ruinart is the oldest champagne house, created by Nicolas Ruinart in 1729. The business remained in the family until the 1950's when control was passed to Baron Philippe de Rothschild. The estate was eventually sold to Moet & Chandon in 1963 and subsequently became part of the LVMH group. Today Ruinart is run by chairman Roland de Calonne, assisted by his chef de caves Jean François Barot. The house style is dry and crisp, with a dominance of Chardonnay over the two Pinots. Even in the non-vintage cuvées Chardonnay will typically account for up to 50% of the blend. Vintage cuvées will generally include over 50%. The 'R'de Ruinart is 40% Chardonnay - both NV and vintage wines - and 60% Pinot Noir.

A clear straw-yellow in colour. Scents of pear and lemon on the nose with yeasty notes. The mousse is elegant and well structured with fine bubbles. On the palate lively and vivacious with further green fruit flavours. Full-bodied and creamy, the finish is clean and crisp making this a great aperitif. Drink also with oysters or sauteed lamb's kidneys with mustard and tarragon.
