- Cantine Ceci, Lambrusco Rosso Secco, 'Terre Verdiane' 2009
Cantine Ceci was founded by Otello Ceci in 1938 and is situated at Torrile Parma in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. Today the estate is run by Otello Ceci's grandchildren and the estate produces some of the best Lambrusco in the region. Although out of favour since the 1970's, the Lambrusco grape is making something of a comeback and its wines are becoming increasingly fashionable as an aperitif or barbecue wine. This particular dry and refreshing sparkling red makes for a great accompaniment to spicy dishes.
A dark, inky-purple in colour. On the nose scents of dark plums and black cherry backed up with earthy notes. On the palate bone-dry but intensely fruity with a racy acidity and a pleasantly bitter peachiness. The finish is clean and earthy. The pronounced acidity makes this an excellent barbecue wine. It is particularly good with fatty meats and rich sauces. Try with spicy red beans and rice with Andouille sausages, wild mushroom risotto with chanterelles and Gorgonzola cheese or Kung Pao chicken with peanuts, plenty of red chillies and water chestnuts.
