- Domaine du Moulin, 'Pet Nat' Rose Bulles 2010
The 13-hectare Domaine du Moulin is run by Isabelle and Hervé Villemade and is situated in the village of Cellettes, northeast of Tours, in the Cheverny region of the Loire Valley. Biodynamic since 1999, a thrilling range of reds and whites are made here using Pinot Noir, Sauvignon, Gamay, Malbec (known locally as Cot) and Chardonnay grapes. They also have some obscure Romorantin vines in the nearby Cour-Cheverny appellation. Harvesting is carried out manually and the wines are very low in sulphur. This particular 'Pet Nat' rosé (Petillant Naturel) is a blend of Gamay, Pinot Noir and Pineau d'Aunis and like all 'Pet Nats' only wild yeats are used and the wine is left to ferment naturally. A dry and creamy sparkler, this makes for a great aperitif.
A copper-pink in the glass. On the nose, floral notes of cherry, cranberries and strawberries. Dry and soft on the palate with a gentle petillance with further summer red-berry notes. Extremely refreshing with a juicy acidity. The finish is short and crisp. A fun aperitif that would also pair well with caramelised red onion and goat's cheese pancake, fresh tuna steak with ginger and chickpeas or a spicy aioli dip with fresh chives.
