- Sandford Estate 'S' Brut NV
The Sandford estate is situated in the Red Cliffs area of the vast Murray River region of south-east Australia, about 20 miles east of Mildura, and production is overseen by leading wine making consultant, Dr Phil Spillman. The region is so vast that many of the wines produced are made on an industrial scale and therefore have no regional stamp. However, this particular 'S' Brut is an exception. Made from 75% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Noir in the Champenoise method, this makes for a superb aperitif. A big Joseph Barnes Wine seller!
A pale straw in colour with a deliciously fine bead. The nose is elegant and complex with yeasty aromas and citrus notes. On the palate plenty of fresh acidity but with a mouth-filling texture. Flavours of lemon peel and orchard apple. The finish is short and crisp. Excellent with steamed fish served with a light parsley butter or a platter of soft cheeses. Otherwise try as a dessert wine with baked cheesecake or crème caramel.
