  • Alain Brumont, Chateau Bouscasse Vieilles Vignes 2004
  • Alain Brumont is widely regarded as one of the finest wine makers in the world at present. He is credited with single-handedly rescuing the appellation of Madiran from obscurity following the turmoil of World War Two. He owns several estates in the region all of which are run strictly along organic or biodynmaic lines. Chateau Bouscasse is one of his most important estates and the Vieilles Vignes is 100% Tannat from 50 year-old old vines and spends some time in new oak barrels. Full-bodied and spicy and although drinking now, this will benefit from a further 3-5 years in the cellar.

An almost opaque purple in the glass. A powerful, spicy nose suggesting earthy black fruits. Full-bodied yet smooth in texture with further expressive flavours of cassis and black plums. A lengthy finish and pronounced acidity make this a great food wine. Try with rib of beef with a shallot and red wine sauce, oxtail braised in red wine or medaillons of roe deer served with apples and blackcurrants.
