  • Chateau du Cedre, 'Le Cedre' 2006
  • Founded in 1956 by Charles Verhaeghe, and now run by his sons Pascal and Jean-Marie, this 25 hectare domaine is one of the leading lights of Cahors. The wines are predominantly Malbec usually blended with a little Tannat or Merlot. Quality is the watchword and the aim is to compete with the New World Malbecs at their best. 'Le Cedre' is a superb pure Malbec from very low yields. Aged in new oak, the tannins and fruit soften over time to give a supple wine particularly suited to food.

Almost black in colour with hints of purple. Complex aromas of oak, smoke and dried fruits. On the palate, earthy flavours of wild red berries and game are drawn in by the warm tannins. Lip-smacking acidity makes this a perfect partner to most foods particularly roast leg of lamb with juniper berries, goose stuffed with chestnuts or a simple game terrine.
