- Clos Triguedina, 'Cahors' 2005
The 57-hectare Clos Triguedina was founded in 1830 by Etienne Baldes. Eight generations on and the estate is still in the hands of the Baldes family. The grape grown here is mainly Malbec from old vines that escaped the devastating frosts of 1956. This superb red is a blend of hand sorted Malbec with a little Merlot and Tannat. Full-bodied and approachable, this wine is good on it's own or with substantial beef dishes.
Dark, almost inky black in colour. Concentrated aromas of red cherries, raspberries and leather on the nose. On the palate, flavours of blackberries, vanilla and liquorice are evident. The texture is full-bodied and rich with chewy tannins and a lingering finish. Good on it's own but even better with beef dishes (Malbec is perfect for beef - think Argentinian here), roast duck or a hearty cassoulet. Interestingly 'Triguedina' is Occitan for 'I long for dinner'!
