- Antonio Camillo, Maremma Rosso ‘Principio’ 2010
Antonio Camillo worked for 15 years as cellar master in some of the most important estates in Maremma, Tuscany. 4 years ago he bought two vineyards totalling 5 hectares in the area between Sovana and Pitigliano on the border with Lazio. He makes only 2 wines - both organic - a white made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes and this particular red made entirely from the native Ciliegiolo grape grown high in the hills of Maremma at 600 meteres above sea level. The vines are 40 years old and give up a fresh and mineral red.
A light ruby-red in colour. Aromas of cherries and raspberries. On the palate, fresh and youthful with flavours of blueberries and a hint of thyme. The tannins are pleasing and the finish fresh making this a good food wine with rabbit stew, pasta with meatballs or a garlicky fish soup.
