Vittorio Innocenti gave up teaching philosophy a number of years ago in order to concentrate on his 32-hectare estate based at Montefollonico near Sienna in Tuscany. He is aided by his theatre-historian wife Maria-Rosa and their son Tommaso and together they produce excellent examples of the Sangiovese grape out of their 13^th century cellar based in the centre of the town. This rustic and uncompromising Chianti is from the sub-region of Colli Senesi and is mainly Sangiovese with a splash of the Canaiolo Toscana grape.

A delightful ruby-red in colour with earthy scents of plum, leather and wild rose, the palate is meaty and spicy with notes of cherry and liquorice. With excellent acidity and a tart, fresh finish, this makes for a great food wine. Try with roast chicken with sage, braised celery or lasagna made with Italian sausage topped with plenty of Mozzarella cheese!
