- Radford Dale Shiraz 2008
The estate is the brainchild of Aussie Ben Radford and Brit Alex Dale who crossed paths in Burgundy and later in South Africa. They eventually set up the Radford Dale estate in 1998 in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. Ben returned to the Barossa Valley but Alex remains to continue the tradition of producing excellent wines from vineyards located in the Devon Valley (3ha) and Helderberg Mountain (4ha). This spicy Shiraz comes from 2 parcels of vines - the older parcel is located on the Helderberg Mountain overlooking False Bay, the younger from south east facing slopes in the Devon Valley. The wine is then matured for 16 months in small French barrels.
A garnet-purple in colour. Aromas of cassis and green herbs. On the palate, mineral and firm with dense juicy fruit and balanced tannins. The finish is lingering and spicy. Classic Shiraz - peppery, restrained yet powerful. Try with roast leg of lamb stuffed with garlic and juniper berries, salted pork liver with radishes or a wild mushroom stroganoff with a herb crumb topping.
