Description
Chateau Tour des Gendres is to be found at Ribagnac in the appellation of Bergerac and is run by the ebullient Luc de Conti and his brother Jean who inherited the 45-hectare estate in 1981. Luc is a leading figure in the 'Vinarchiste' movement and his wines - all organic or biodynamic - reflect this alternative approach to vinifiction. The estate rose is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot (20% of which is aged in new oak) and makes for a particularly good partner to spicy foods.
Tasting Notes
An inviting pale cherry-red in colour, the nose suggests plums, strawberries and pink grapefruit. On the palate, dry and crisp with balanced acidity. Look for further jammy red-fruit flavours of raspberries and redcurrants with an extra touch of vanilla. The finish is round yet fresh making this an excellent wine to accompany spicy dishes such as chicken satay, spring rolls with a ginger dipping sauce or crab cakes with chilli. Alternatively serve with a simple roast duck.
