Description
Former journalist Francois Collard, proprietor of the 35 hectare Chateau Mourgues du Gres in the Costiere de Nimes, trained at Chateau Lafite-Rothschild and makes arguably the best wines in the region. This particular red is from the easy-drinking 'Galets' range and is made to be drunk young. A supple and expressive combination of Syrah and Grenache with a touch of Carignan, this makes a great food wine. Particularly suited to earthy, rustic dishes.
Tasting Notes
Dark ruby-red in colour. On the nose scents of kirsch, plums, figs and herbes de Provence. Very smooth in texture with ripe flavours of cherries and raspberries backed up by a nice long tannic finish. Almost like a Chateauneuf-du-Pape in character. Plenty of alcohol at 14%. Drink with braised artichoke hearts, lamb chops sauteed with herbes de Provence or wild boar in a red wine casserole.
