- Herederos de Argueso, Manzanilla Las Medallas (1/2 Bottle)
The 70-hectare Bodegas Argueso was founded in 1822 by Leon de Argueso y Argueso and is situated in Sanlucar de Barrameda, 10 miles to the north west of Jerez de la Frontera in southern Spain. This bone-dry Manzanilla ('little apple') only comes from the Sanlucar de Barrameda area and is made in the same way as fino, in that a thick cap of flor covers the wine to protect it from the air, while at the same time imparting to the wine its unmistakeable yeasty, flory aromas and flavour.
A clear pale golden in colour. Look for scents of toated almonds and camomile. On the palate, bright with a lively acidity leading to flavours of green apple and sage with mildly salty notes. A vigorous and fresh wine that makes for a great accompaniment to seafood. Serve well chilled with prawns a la Plancha, grilled mackerel with a sage sauce or spaghetti with anchovy and oregano sauce.
