- Sanchez Romate Amontillado NPU Special Reserve Sherry
The Sanchez Romate winery was founded by Juan Sanchez de la Torre in 1781 and is situated in Jerez de la Frontera in southern Spain. It is one of the few remaining wineries still in the hands of local owners and in addition to be being one of the most important estates in the sherry region, the company is also the appointed Official Purveyor to the House of Lords and to the Vatican Palace. This stunning Amontillado is made from the Palomino Fino grape which undergoes a complex ageing process (without the 'flor') over 30 years resulting in one of the finest sherries from Jerez. Great as an aperitif. Otherwise pair with marinated seafood or a bowl of toasted almonds.
A bright amber in colour. Aromas of almonds and citrus fruits. On the palate, dry and silky with notes of orange peel, vanilla and smoke. The finish is persistent. Drink with a simple rocket and parmesan salad, pan-seared chicken breasts with fresh thyme and a redcurrant jus or roasted rabbit with artichokes, wild mushrooms and lemons.
