- Domaine Vincent Ogereau, Coteaux du Layon Saint Lambert 2009
A graduate of the Lycée d'Agriculture in Beaufort, in Bordeaux, Vincent is a fourth generation vigneron, and currently runs the family domaine established by his ancestors in 1890. The estate is situated in Saint-Lambert du Lattay in the Anjou-Saumur region of the Loire Valley and there are 24 hectares of vines in all, expanded from the 12 hectares Vincent inherited when he took up the reins. From these vineyards, situated on predominantly schistous terroir he produces high quality dry whites, light, fruity reds, and a small but exciting range of sweet wines made from Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The sweet wines, all bottled under the Coteaux du Layon Saint Lambert appellation, are exemplary. The range opens with this entry-level domaine wine made from 100% Chenin from the vineyards of the Coteaux du Layon. It undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation before ageing in 500-litre casks for up to 18 months before bottling. A vibrant, richly botrytised and honeyed wine, this makes for a great aperitif or accompaniment to light fruit desserts.
A crystal-clear pale yellow with gold flecks. Aromas of melon, honey and dried raisins. On the palate, harmonious and balanced with a smooth texture and fresh acidity. Try with a sweetbread ragout, baked summer fruit strudel or spiced fig and ginger pudding.
