  • De Martino, Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2011
  • The de Martino Family have been making wine in Chile's famed Maipo Valley for over 70 years and their vineyards are situated at altitudes of up to 825m above sea level, yet only 30 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The soils are made up of clay, sand and volcanic rock which in turn imparts a very distinct character to the wines. This approachable Sauvignon Blanc is from the 'Estate' range and the grapes are harvested from 70 hectares of vines located in the Maipo, Cachapoal and Maule Valleys at altitudes of up to 350m above sea level. The soil is alluvial with deposits of granite and this zesty white certainly reflects the mineral terroir.

A pale yellow-green in the glass. On the nose, bright aromas of lemon peel and grass with gooseberry notes and grapefruit hints. On the palate, pleasantly tart and crisp with further citrus flavours and a great mineral edge. The finish is lingering and the acidity balanced. Try with risotto of lobster with peas and asparagus, spring green salad with goat's cheese served with a bell pepper vinaigrette or fresh snapper ceviche with tequila, lime and roasted sweet peppers.
