  • Domaine Henri Bourgeois, Quincy 'Haute Victoire' 2010
  • The village of Quincy is situated in the eastern Loire and received AOC status in 1936 for Sauvignon Blanc and bears some of oldest vineyards in the region. It received its AOC after the rebuilding of the vineyards following the Phylloxera blight of the 1920's and was only the 2nd wine region in France to be accorded such status, following the original appellation of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The wines from Quincy are said to be softer than those from neighbouring Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume and this excellent example from the Bourgeois estate illustrates just this. The domaine is to be found in the village of Chavignol, and is one of most important houses in Sancerre, operating both as a grower and négociant. The family have been making wine in Sancerre for ten generations, although until recently the holdings were relatively small, (only 2 hectares in 1950.) Today there are 65 hectares run by Jean-Marie Bourgeois, with the domaine providing half of the firm's needs, the remaining half being purchased from local growers. This elegant white is typical of the wines from Quincy. Fermented in stainless steel tanks over winter, it remains on its lees for some months before bottling in April.

A delightful pale-golden in colour. On the nose, delicate notes of citrus fruits and sweet geranium. On the palate, fresh and crisp but simultaneously round and well balanced. The finish is fruity and aromatic. Great with a fillet of salmon served with citrus butter, garlic stuffed chicken or Asian pork with a spinach stir fry.
