- Chateau de Saint-Cyrgues, Costieres de Nimes Blanc 2009
Chateau Saint Cyrgues is based in the village of Saint-Gilles in the Costieres de Nimes appellation of the Cotes-du-Rhone and is run along organic lines by Guy de Mercurio who took over the estate in 1991. The region received full appellation status in 1986 and although notionally in the eastern Languedoc it shares the same terroir as the southern Rhone, i.e. galet stones and sandstone. The Costieres de Nimes Blanc is a spicy blend of Roussanne and Grenache Blanc and is unoaked.
A lemon-yellow in colour. Scents of rose petals, honeycomb, candied lemon and white pepper. Medium-bodied on the palate with notes of honey and sweet spice leading to a lingering and spicy finish. To accompany Evelyne suggests smoked salmon tart., Otherwise try with chicken Hymette with limes, saffron, honey and fresh mint or clams in a garlic and parsley veloute.
