- La Boussolle, Viognier 2009
This 100% Viognier comes from the stable of Stephane Vedeau and Claude Serra who make wines under the names of Domaine Nordoc and Domaine Boussolle. The vineyards are located along the Mediterranean coast in southern France and are grown on chalky soil. Low yields and a ruthless approach to quality control means that behind the label lie some of the best value wines in the Languedoc. The currently ultra-trendy Viognier grape was actually on the verge of extinction by 1965 but has made an incredible comeback largely due to its intense and floral flavours and for its ability to soften the Syrah grape in Chateaunef blends.
A deep gold in colour, this waxy, creamy Viognier is bursting with tropical fruit aromas and toasty vanilla flavours. Great with creamy curries, spicy Thai cuisine or Roquefort cheese.
