  • Elgin Ridge 282 Sauvignon Blanc 2010
  • Elgin Ridge Winery is situated in the heart of the Elgin Valley, less than 1 hour from Cape Town, and is owned by ex-pat Brits Brian and Marion Smith. They planted their first vines on the estate in 2007 and with the help of winemaker Niels Verburg, their organic wines are now highly sought-after. The vineyards are planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon and Pinot Noir and pests are kept under control by the estate's flock of ducks which accounts for their appearance on the label. The grapes for this refreshing Sauvignon Blanc come from vines planted at an altitude of 282 metres above sea level, hence the name, and display clean flavours with a hint of minerality.

A pale straw in colour with green flashes. On the nose, aromas of  lemons, gooseberries and grapefruit. Refreshing and crisp on the palate with grassy flavours and a hint of minerality. The finish is clean and pleasantly tart making this a great food wine.  Drink with pan-fried scallops with a grapefruit and onion salad, grilled quid with a green salsa or fennel and leek risotto.
